www.akira2002.com

While looking though some of my old Akira DVDs, I noticed that for the 2002 DVD release, the website http://www.akira2002.com was registered as part of the advertising campaign.

I decided to check out to see if the website was still there, but unfortunately it’s long gone. There is a copy of it on the Wayback Machine, but it seems to be flash based as I can’t get passed the intro page.

The last time the domain was used for it’s original Akira related purpose was back in 2004, so I thought it might be nice for posterity to register the domain again and have it linked to this website.

If you do somehow happen to end up here because you thought you’d try searching for a domain you found on the back of a 22 year old Akira DVD, do let me know!

Art of Anime and Everything Cool Vol. IV – Lots added

After my previous batch of cels performed very well at Heritage Auctions ‘Art of Anime and Everything Cool’, I have decided to send over another group for this September’s up and coming ‘Art of Anime and Everything Cool, Vol IV’ (taking place over the 15-17th of September)

Some hard to part with cels in this bunch, most of which I’ve had for many many years (none have ever been framed and have been stored in Itoya art folders with backing boards the entire time I’ve owned them.)

Link below to the auctions if anyone fancies a look:

One of the really great things about sending cels over to Heritage Auctions is the scans you end up coming out with.

Some items from this blog are now listed on Heritage Auctions (bidding from the 22nd of November)

With the recent upswing in the value of Akira cels, I have decided to sell a few pieces via Heritage Auctions. Sad to see some of them go, but I’m really interested to see how they perform under the hammer.

Links below to my 7 consignments if you fancy having a look (great seeing such high quality scans of some of the cels I’ve had listed on this blog for years!)

Cel Storage

Cel storage is something which is forever an issue. If you want to frame your cels, you’ve to be extremely careful as UV light completely destroys trace lines and fades colour. Many cels I’ve come across over the years have been incorrectly framed or placed in a spot which receives sunlight and as a result, have little to no trace lines left, bleached muddy colours – it’s truly awful to see.

I’ve been keeping my cels in an Itoya art folder for years. However, that in itself has posed issues. Itoya were only available in the US (and cost quite the sum to import) – the sleeves were great, but had no hard backing, which leads to concerns about cels flexing (another way to kill trace lines as well as chip off paint!)

So, I’ve finally found a workable solution! An ebay seller in Germany selling Itoya landscape folders along with another UK seller selling acid free backing boards which fit the pockets exactly.

Because they’re landscape folders, you can stand them up and store them really easily. Therefore solving yet another cel related issue (they need to be stored vertically as weight can make the cel paint stick to the bags)

Quite a few of these are cel images I’ve already shared. But just to show you how they now look. It’s great being able to finally see them properly too, the previous pockets had black sugar paper backing which made them hard to see.

New storage solution

Here’s a setup which really benefits from the new landscape folder.
